McMansions & Price/Sq.Ft.

Did you ever stop to ask yourself what am I getting for the price?

Bargain Prices from the “Big Developer/House Builder” may costs a little less per square foot.  But how much are you paying in the long run for the care, maintenance and operation of your McMansion?

If you are like most people, we tend to upsize as we are building careers and starting families and then downsize when all the kids are out of the house and on their own.  Do you really need 2 “extra” bedrooms for family that visits at holiday time?  Do you really need that Bonus Room over the garage for your seven-year-old that may want  a drum set when he is 12?

At Build it Green, we will consider EVERYTHING that you’ve put on your Wish List! Then we will talk about the long term costs associated with heating and cooling the extra thousand or so of square feet in your home for the next twenty years. We also encourage you to consider how you “really” use your home.  Can certain rooms serve several purposes with carefully thought out storage and built-ins?  We are able to offer valuable insight on these issues while keeping your floor plan open, practical and functional.  This enables your home to be truly customized without the worry of it losing its mass appeal should you put it on the market in the future.

At Build it Green, we have several floor plans to start your designing process.  They are the framework in which you get to choose most of the things that will make this house – YOUR HOME!  Some of the things we will help you with, for example, is plumbing runs.  By knowing where the water supply comes from, we can economically layout the approximation of kitchens and baths.  We take into account the proper supply and waste lines &sizes and proper venting of the fixtures.  We don’t expect you the homeowner to know this when you come to us – but you will understand it, by the time you leave.  By giving you certain limitations up front, you will avoid having your heart set on a master bath in a location of the home that would require multiple venting and stack lines – in essence, doubling the plumbing costs associated with that particular layout.  This example is one of the common situations that arise when a client brings us their first ideas or worse – spends money to have an architect draw these plans up without review. While architects are extremely valuable – and we can’t build with them – some architects simply draw what you give them for a rock bottom price. We can work with your architect or introduce you to one of ours!  Again, it’s your choice!
